Father/Son Retreat 2010

Retiro Espiritual Padre e Hijo

El retiro de padre e hijo se llevó a cabo el pasado 18 de enero, 2010. El Padre Juan J. Ortiz, C.O ofreció la plática “7 Secrets to Raising Healthy Sons” by Meg Meeker, M.D.

Oratory Schools Among Top Thirty Schools in Texas in Science Education

After participating and placing in the Rio Grande Valley Regional Science Olympiad Division B, on March 7, 2009 at South Texas College, McAllen, our junior high students were able to proceed to the Texas Science Olympiad (TSO) where hundreds of students from 30 campuses state-wide would compete. According to the Educational Outreach & Women’s Programs, these “competitions follow the format of popular board games, TV shows and athletic games. These challenging and motivational events are well balanced between the various science and engineering disciplines of biology, earth science, chemistry, physics, computers and technology. There is also a balance between events requiring knowledge of facts, concepts, processes, skills and science applications.”

On Thursday, April 23, the students departed for the state competition held at Texas A&M University accompanied by their science coach, Linda Maldonado, assisted by Joseph Moroles and several parent sponsors. On Friday, the students began the competition at the Recreation Center. Only students were permitted to enter. Later that evening, the Oratory students had dinner and celebrated a student’s birthday at Carinos restaurant. The following morning, the competition continued at the Heldenfels Building at 8:00 AM. After the day’s events, they attended a baseball game Aggies VS Ohio. In the evening, they returned to Bryant Civic Auditorium for the Division B Awards Ceremony. Throughout the trip, parents and coaches assisted students with arriving on time, being prepared, and supervising them during their stay and while on the road.

Congratulations to the Oratory Academy’s science competition coaches and winners at the regional and state level! We also extend our thanks to the parents who accompanied our students to this wonderful academic tournament that awards excellence in the fields of science education.
